TRIALS, TRIBULATIONS AND TRIUMPHS...

if u were wondering about my long absence from the internet and such, theres a good explanation for all this. Pretty much a whirlwind of happenings and events which will take quite some time to recall. All this stems back to one fateful early morning, a chance meeting w/ some1 who would change our fortunes, for the better.

GIMP VERSION:
If ur one of those TL;DNR (or too long, did not read... i kno who u r) sort of readers, this is pretty much the gist of it. So, a little over a wk ago, my roomie Mark mentions a new place, freshly carpeted and painted, which was cheaper and closer to ppl we kno. That pretty much sold us, and we decided to get the lease and start moving in immediately. So, over the course of the next wk, we manage to get in the bulk of our stuff into the new apt, and slowly get all the miscellanous stuff squared away. In the meantime, we go on a furniture/cleaning splurge, buying all those necessities to make one cosy apt. Arranging all those amenities of home, we take care of the other apt, making it look nice and all for prospective new tenants. All the while, we cope without the internet for a good wk, and still have class to go to. Now that we're finally settled in, it seems as if things are really looking up.

HARDCORE VERSION:
Now, this is my style. Here is the account of the exodus from what might be the most depressing place ive been in. All accounts are recalled to the best of my memory (its been a little while). So, what conspired that one fateful night... around the 24th or so... would really mark a change in our fortunes. My good roomie Mark had expressed a certain overwhelming desire to get out of the current apt several times in the past. Due to apparent laziness on our part, we didnt act on this desire, too much work to find and move to a place, especially in the situation we were in last sem. But, lo and behold, Bo's bf Don comes up for the weekend. Mark decides to get some dinner with the two of them, and thats when he strikes up a conversation w/ our soon-to-be manager John. Knowing him from the summer b4, John mentions an opening in the building, a newly carpeted and painted 2 bdrm 2 bath apt. Mark comes home later that night, and when we get ready for bed at around 4 in the morn, he calls a little meeting to discuss some matters...

This is the extent of what Mark had to say early that mornin "I found a new place, w/ carpet and new paint, 2 bdrm 2 bath, closer to ppl we know, and... its cheaper." All i heard was "new place... CARPET.... CHEAPER!!!!!!" I was sold, and so was Vic. Now, all there was left to do was to get that lease, tell our folks we need the extra cash, and move in. Waking up around noon the next day, we all saunter on over to the comp room. Nearing lunch time, Mark mentions a novel idea: lets move in guys... now. Being in an excited state as i was, i jump at the idea. Lets get outta this place, as fast as possible. So, we slowly get all our stuff ready to be packaged and moved. Mark goes out to take care of some things, leaving Vic and me to get the stuff ready to move. We disassemble the beds and i get all my clothes ready (i never realized how much clothes i had. Imagine... most ppl have more clothes than me... scary). Once Mark gets back, he brings a special surprise as well... Don. B4 i say anything, mad props to Don. W/o his help, i dont think we could have done this in the amt of time we did. Anyway, we commence the exodus, which happened to coincide w/ the Super Bowl (i stopped watching after the 1st quarter... ).

Having two cars is a big, huge plus, especially if one is a truck. Ist on the list was the beds and my clothes, plus miscellaneous other goodies. Subsequent trips consisted of heaving lifting, massive elevator trips, and precarious rides w/ our precious cargo, especially with the gayness that is nor-cal driving. In the course of one day, we manage to get in 3 mattresses and 3 bed frames, my desk and miscellaneous books and clothes, and some other goodies. Our first day of moving concluded w/ a trip to Dennys, and after a long day of lifting and unpacking, i was ready for a good pancake dinner. And pancakes never tasted so good. We concluded the day with a celebratory swimming on the carpet, and slept on the mattresses, too tired to even move.

Turns out i missed the only real class i had that day. That led to another phase of moving: reassembly. Starting that day, i slowly realized how much i was owned by Ikea, and the extent of reassembly yet to come. So, the bunk beds were assembled in a short amt of time. Another realization took place... there was so much room in our new pad. A sort of giddy warmth resonated deep within me. I was goin to sleep here from now on. Alas, more moving had to be done, and next on the list were the desks, including the rest of Vic and Mark's clothes and such. Reassembly commenced on the desks, and misc clothes were put into their respective places. Now, more misc stuff had to be squared away, within 4 boxes obtained at Target for around 10 bucks. It also marked the birth of one notorious quote, "its in one of those boxes". The utterance of this quote was multifold... and in all cases it held true. We must have said it a 100 times over. Goin to and from the old apt, i came up w/ another inane quote, "This place has so much little room..." It made sense to me at the time... Mark had his various quotes as well. What i remember is one time last wk over at Jane's place. A goldfish's attention span is about 6 sec. We didnt hold a candle to a goldfish at that time. Case in pt: Mark has a plate of food in front of him. He says ,"I am so hungry" and takes a look down. Classic. Thats how it was for a couple days, we were in quite the daze.

Then, it was time to go to the realty office to make our move a reality. Manager John's wife Pam accompanies us to the realty office, which took quite a bit of time to locate. Most of the visit consisted of readin over safety notices and waiting for credit checks. After a bit of a wait, we were given the lease and the warnings of mold and lead. Just happens that the printer doesnt work well... and Mark decides to lend a hand. A good 10 min later, an employee at the front office gives some contact info to Mark so that he could help out w/ her comp prob back at her home. Mark is Spiderman (this is my gift, this is my curse). This sort of thing always seems to happen when hes around and theres a problem w/ a comp. Anyway, we got the lease, and it was official. We got the apt, and all was good.

Dont remember much of thursday, jus a chem pre-lab and all. Friday was when the Ikea craze started up again. We took a good long look at some couches on display. Nothing doing, all those couches were either really expensive, not comfortable, or too fruity for our taste. One couch screamed SKITTLES at us. So, no Ikea couches as of that moment. We headed over to the dining tables and found a pretty good one for a decent price. We found matching chairs with a CAL blue cushion, but only 3 were in stock at the time. Add 5 CAL blue dining plates, 2 floor lamps, and misc energy-saving bulbs, and there u go, my Ikea splurge. I sacrificed a fri practice of wushu to help put the new dining set together. Table wasnt that bad, jus tack on the 4 legs and BAM. New dining table. Next came the chairs... which were a bit annoying. Various screws at odd angles... three times over. But, all in all, turned out pretty well.

Think ill cut this one a bit abruptly. Gotta take care of the chem prelab and such. Next installation of our exodus coming soon: HARDCORE VERSION, 2ND STAGE. Take care yall. More to come soon.
