m4d SPLURGING...
for my taste, at least. While i was losing sleep to the likes of chem 3a and phys 8b (not to mention bio 1b, which i have a midterm in next wk, AHHH), i was spending up some m4d cash. For a guy like me, who doesnt have much cash on him in the 1st place, these were pretty outlandish purchases. Ehh, its all good, as long as its worth it, on any sort of level.
So, it all started maybe last wk, i dont remember. I had to buy a ticket home for thanksgiving. As much as i love berkeley... (love is a bit of a strong word, heh), i miss home, so i wanted to make it home for the holidays. After buying the ticket, i was browsing around some k-pop sites, and a must buy item pops up. Shes been my favorite singer ever since i listened to her, well into her 3rd album. I think i got into her a little late, cause she debuted in 1999, and i jus listened to her stuff last semester. But, im really glad i got a chance to listen to her stuff when i did. Being the ballad song buff i am, her brand of stuff jus struck a certain chord within me, and i was hooked. Shes the best female ballad vocal ive listened to by far. Well, her 4th album jus got released, and it includes a song in the FFX International OST. Good stuff baby. So, i was reading up on the new release, and then i see that theres this limited edition package, bundled w/ a dvd of all her music videos. Whoa, sounds good, but still a little pricey for my taste... and then there was this: "First 35 copies sold will come w/ an autograph". BAM, im sold, and there we go, my first ever CD purchase online. Oh yea, i forgot to mention her name. Shes Lee Soo Young...
Her name isnt really Soo Young, but theres another singer by her birthname, so she decided to change it. If ur still wondering why im so into her, its jus the way i feel when shes singin her stuff, especially her really slow and melancholy songs. To my knowledge, all her albums have this upbeat track to them, which are pretty good in their own right, but her shining appeal is in her slower songs. Every time i listen to those songs, especially in her 3rd album, i feel this sort of nostalgic, calming sensation. Her melodic voice is quite soothing and full of range, always alive and changing. The production is top-notch, employing whole orchestras in some cases. It makes for some powerful stuff. Yea, but for those who arent really into ballad, its doesnt touch the heart as much. She has this sort of natural, graceful beauty to her too, a certain softness. Thats what i like baby, hehe. Thats pretty much y im so into her. Oh yea, her music videos fit the song really well too, its almost haunting the way they intertwine the music and imagery within the video. Shes awesome, oh yea baby.
Yea, so that leads to today. With no physics lab to interrupt my 1-class day, i was pretty much contented. And then my CD arrives!! YAY. With the autograph and all, im one pretty happy guy right about now. Then, Mark decides to head on over to Fry's today, since he has some matters to attend to during the weekend. So, the nearest Fry's is pretty far away, about 30 miles or so. But, it was worth it. I had to get some necessities, such as 256 mb of memory. That makes the grand total to a little over a half a gig. Yea, it makes a bit of difference alrite, im enjoying it as we speak, hehe. Then, more necessities, like more blank CDs and a PS controller adapter... But, to our dismay, one item on the list was outta stock... all in a matter of 20 min. Damn... Yea, so we were planning to get Kingdom Hearts, the new PS2 rpg that combines Square and Disney characters. I was waiting for this thing to come out ever since Nammy showed me a clip of Donald Duck speakin in Japanese... hehehe. But, the story has quite the happy ending, for there was a Best Buy on the way home. We walk in and browse around... but it wasnt even displayed. Mark was about ready to leave, but he decided to ask. Sure enough, there were 3 cases of Kingdom Hearts in the stockroom. Essentially we were the 1st ones to get a copy at that Best Buy. Moral of the story... always ask to c if something's in stock. All in all, despite the lack of sleep and the constant barrage of labs, i am kept alive w/ the wushu goodness, and events like today. Theres always a reason to go forth, for no1 can really kno what lies ahead in the distance. Might as well take a look for urself....
Yea, i think ill stop w/ the splurging now... until Xenosaga comes out. It'll be all over when it does, hehe. Take care yall. More to come later.
