EVERY JOURNEY BEGINS W/ A SINGLE STEP....
and in my case, i took a whole bunch today. Yeap, so that was pretty much my 1st day of classes, fall semester 2002. To make up for my extreme laziness during pretty much the whole of last yr, including this summer, i decided to go hardcore w/ my classes and take some actual pre-reqs for MCB. Take three of them at the same time... all sciences... 3 labs, discussions, and lectures.... oh man. Better yet, i get to wake up at 8 every morning!!! yay..... stupid bio classes.. all in the morning. Well anyway, i manage to get up right at the alarm, and not turn on the snooze. I head out w/ Vic, since he has a bio 1a class at the same time. Yea, once we get to West Gate, we c a whole bunch of ppl in a picket line. The clerical workers are goin on strike, for 3 whole days... maybe jus to get publicity for their cause or something. Anyway, the bio 1b lecture today was ur standard intro lecture. Still a little bit on the boring side, since its only an intro. But, one interesting thing that i picked up was that us humans are closely related to fungi, which might explain why fungal afflictions (atheletes foot) are so hard to get rid of. That was pretty interesting... Since i had a pretty good gap of time b4 my next class, i decide to head back to our pad...
And at 2, i make my way up to Latimer. Even tho it was a discussion session, i didnt kno if it was cancelled for sure... so i went. And it was quite aways away, uphill to boot. Plus it became increasingly hotter as i came near the place, or it seemed to be. In any case, it was pretty hot, not pleasant at all. And then an anti-climatic end to my trek up to latimer... the section was cancelled for this wk, and the next due to the labor day holiday (YEAA). At least i found out that a ol' phys lab partner of mine was in the same disc section as me. YAY. After that, i head on over to Foothill to meet up w/ my ol' suitemates. 4 of them are living in the same suite, jus switched around roomies. Essentially, u could tear down the wall between them and make it into a quad. Seems like their all doing well, still the same guys. Good stuff, hehe. And then, it was time for some IDS 130; ethics and social issues in health and medicine. The guest lecturer was pretty good, i liked his lec enough. Some really good stuff to ponder over. He is a long time practicing surgeon, and he recounted certain experiences of his to make his points. All the issues had a certain philosophic bearing towards it, its my kinda thing baby, hehe. One interesting interpretation of the history of humans is like this: from a predator to a parasite to a pathogen. Thats real interesting to me, cause i still believe that there's 2 sides to human nature. After all, i am a dualist. Humans have the capacity to totally anhilate this planet, to undertake the most extreme evils... and yet they still have the capacity to be compassionate, to transcend the reality that seems so ingrained and entrenched... well, yea, thats my view. I still have faith. So anyway, after the IDS stuff, it was back to the apt...
And after a little rest, time for wushu. YAY. Mark gave me a ride too, that was sweet. So, it was pretty good seeing all the ol' wushu ppl there in practice again. Yea, i think i tried to go a little too hardcore, a little too fast today. I tired myself out pretty quick, and found out how really out of shape i was. And Kenny was leading the class... and Kenny is pretty hardcore, he doesnt give much time to rest during the basics lines. So yea, that wore me out, i was breathing hard like crazy. After tweakin my left knee a little, i decided to give it a rest for tonite. Oh mann... i am outta shape... gotta get back into the wushu groove real soon. Oh well, yea, now i am pretty tired, and still i have yet to finish up my laundry... and wake up for my 8 o clock class... I will have to muster all my strength to go hardcore this sem.... Well, take care yall. More to come soon.

I LAUGH AT THE INEVITABLE...
but its gettin really close now. B4 u kno it, im goin to be in MCB purgatory, paying for my summer of extreme laziness and relaxation. But yesterday, i tried to get the impending doom outta my mind by taking a little trip to SF, along w/ a couple other ppl. So, it all starts with yesterday early morning... cause thats when they arrived...
Yea, so awhile back when i was in socal, i was visiting yoon at her place. She mentioned that a couple of her good friends from korea were coming to visit and they wanted to go to the bay area sometime. Thats when i invited them over anytime, well b4 the classes craziness. So, she took me up on her offer the day b4 she came. A promise is a promise, after all. Thats something i wouldnt want to break. So yea, she made her way over from SD... a looong 9 hr trip up to the bay area. Yea, at the same time, i gave my two roommates the very late heads up. Sorry to spring this on ya guys so last minute again... well, anyway, they came over after gettin a little lost on the weird berkeley streets w/ the one ways and all. This was about 1:30 in the morning... ehh, im usually still up. So, it was Yoon, her younger sister, and Yoon's two friends Hae Rim and Sun Sook, who came over from korea. It wasnt soo bad in the apt, there was plenty of room to sleep and all. After they were all settled in, i went to sleep, at around 3. Ehh, again, its normal. But, i usually dont get up that early in the morning...
Yea, at the girls request, i get my lazy bones outta the bed at around 9 in the morning. As i was to find out, theres a lotta places to see around here in the bay area, especially if ur outta town or country. So, first off was breakfast... and the girls didnt eat much... Maybe its cause i eat a lot, so my perception is skewed... hehe. After the light breakfast, it was off to the berk campus. So, i show them around the various buildings in berk; the VLSB, Sather Gate, Doe and Morrison Libraries, the Campenelle, and some others. Yea, watching them jus look at awe at some of the buildings kinda made me feel something special. Its a good feeling to kno some1 still gets a kick outta something ur accustomed to. After a trip to the berk student store to pick up some lil' souveniers, we made tracks for the BART. Jus walking and lookin around takes a lotta time apparently. So yea, onward to SF. Arriving at the Powell station, we browse around the shoppin center connected to the station. I didnt kno build-a-bear was soo easy to get too. I am pretty partial to stuffed animals... hey, they're nice... yea, so we head on above and walk around for awhile before goin on the F-line to get to Fisherman's Wharf. Fishermans Wharf= clam chowder to me, so i take them all to this one italian place that serves it. I dunno, guess it has a certain taste that i like, and its not that expensive either. Hope the girls enjoyed it tho... they dont seem to eat much at all... hehe. So yea, we head back toward pier 39, browsing around again at various places. Then, it was time to ride the blue and gold ferry tour. It takes u around the Golden Gate and Alcatraz. Kinda bumpy, but i expected that. Seeing those two really up close, and gazing upon all of SF at one time... its pretty nice... It was the 1st time ive ever seen Alcatraz that close. No wonder its called the rock... yea, so that was pretty good. After that, we go toward the Gihradelli (?) square on Yoon's request. It seemed easier to climb that hill the 2nd time around... ehh. Again, we browse around, this time w/ samples of chocolate that were given at most of the stores. Real good stuff, it was filled w/ a creamy caramel center. Swweeeet. Yea, but our time was running short, damn inconvienient bart schedule. Waiting at the F-line stop, i sensed a bit of deja-vu... last time i was waiting at the same stop, the f-line didnt come in time, so we had to resort to takin a limo to the embarcadero station. Again, there was this guy willing to take any1 anywhere downtown for 2 bucks a person. Luckily, we waited and got the next f-line. We were plannin on goin to Union Square to round out the trip, but not enough time. Doh. So, time to go back to berk. The train that we took apparently made a wrong turn and ended up on another route goin away from berk. Luck was on our side again, as there was another train that was goin to berk passin through the same station. Either im lucky or unfortunate... its all based on ur perception. So, once we arrive at the berk station, we grab a bite to eat, cause Yoon was plannin to go to a rave that very night. It was pretty funny watching Yoon's little sister trying to teach us how to do some rave moves. Shes pretty good, but we werent, hehe. But... she soon found out that the tickets might have been sold out a long time ago. She had her heart set on that one too... so, instead of goin to the rave, she decides to go home... WTH? It must have been 9:30 at this time. Despite all my efforts to make them stay the night... cause it was kinda insane to go back at this time, she still packs up and leaves. Since i couldnt convince her to stay... doh... i jus saw them off. It wasnt enough time to c all they wanted, but i hope they had a good time up in the bay area. And i hope i was a good tour guide... considering i went to SF 2 times b4, hehe. Yea, i gotta thank all them tho, cause if it wasnt for them, i wouldnt even go to SF and c all that i did. All in all, very good day. Wonderful day to round off my free time. And now, guess ill have to face the inevitable soon.
Well, take care yall, and glad to hear that u guys made it back home safe, hehe. And again Yoon, it was all my pleasure. More to come later.
